John studied Design at Hornsey College of Art. In 1965 established his first workshop near Whitby. A traditional potter who by mixing glazes, oxides, etching, drawing he creates his magic. Rarely seen is one like John who can draw so well on the 3D surface. He said it was because back then, “they had live drawing classes and drawing on paper was of paramount importance”. Not only could he draw and with imagination, he could throw these enormous pieces with seemingly no effort, right up to only a few years before his death.
