Holidays In The Sun: Sex Pistols, Scarborough & The Seaside

Ian Trowell

15 May 2026 - 29 May 2026

This exhibition explores the coming together of the UK’s inaugural punk band Sex Pistols and the North Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough. The band played a handful of dates in Yorkshire.

The gig at Scarborough Penthouse was their second date, falling on Thursday 20th May 1976. The band were relatively unknown and punk was yet to be named as a dangerous new subculture. The exhibition revisits the time by contrasting the everydayness of Scarborough and the extraordinariness of the Sex Pistols.
