Mary-Ann Stevens’ latest project is a sculptural installation inspired by the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. This vibrant, surreal work brings together life-sized papier-mâché characters, each bursting with personality. Drawing on Lewis Carroll’s iconic scene from Alice in Wonderland, Stevens reimagines the chaotic tea party as a playful exploration of identity, absurdity and social ritual. Her quirky, grotesque figures - dressed in costumes sourced and adapted from charity shops - are expressive, theatrical and full of off-beat charm. The hand-built characters come together in an eccentric, surreal, yet familiar scene of a tea party.
