Awarded BEST FRINGE VENUE at the Scarborough Fair Awards 2025 and BEST ART VENUE in 2024.
A former town centre public house, now transformed into a space for creative practitioners and artful endeavours. Scarborough Community Box Office Ltd. have adopted the venue for performances across the 2026 Scarborough Fringe Festival. The activity space is 'T' shaped, with the performance space (in theatre style layout) across the top, and the bar and welcome space in the downstroke. The spaces are basic and raw but there will be up to 40 beautifully comfortable seats for the audience set in rows of six or seven. Basic lighting and sound is present. The former bar, which is still in place, will operate as a licensed bar for most of the festival and may act as a Green Room after show space for performers when the final performance of each day is over.
Note: The Shakespeare is opposite the Market Hall in St. Helen's Square. Free 1 hour parking is available outside (subject to there being a space). The Friarsway car park is the closest council-operated car park. All other on-street parking close by is for 2 hours. On street parking requires a parking disc (available from many shops) or a note which states your arrival time. Loading is through the front door of the building - approximately 4' wide and normal door height, followed by a standard 3' wide door at right-angles to the main.
