Scarborough Amateur Rowing Club

5 October 2024

Rowing is a great way to keep fit and active, it's a low impact sport that is great for building fitness at your own pace. Our rowing nights run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6pm for anyone 12+ with no need for prior experience. We row for fun, fitness and competition so whether you want to join us weekly for a casual row around South bay or get serious and race for us at regattas throughout the summer, come and give it a go. The club has 2 distinct styles of boat, primarily our traditional wooden gigs that hold 4 sweep (1 oar) rowers and a coxswain as well as coastal double sculls (2 oars). From April onwards we hit the water 3+ nights a week and compete in 5 regattas throughout the season fought between ourselves and 2 clubs from Whitby. Once the nights draw in and the sea gets too choppy we put the boats to bed and move to indoor training with a tailored training plan centered around indoor rowing on concept 2 ergs (rowing machines) with some circuit training and team events mixed in, as well as weekend rowing over winter when sea conditions permit. The club has a lively social aspect and is made up of all ages! We have regular social activities off the water and of course we have our own bar. Join us at our club for Scarborough Extreme for a taste of what the club has to offer, with a little indoor rowing challenge and a rowing lesson in the bay - sea conditions permitting.
