The Land We See will be premiered at The Scarborough Lights Festival between November 15th-December 22nd, 2024.

The artworks & short film will take the viewer along on a visual & sonic experience from the point of perspective of a person who is visually impaired, the journey starts at the Dean Road Cemetery entrance up to Manor Road roundabout and culminates at the
YCSS building, 181 Dean Road, YO12 7JH.

Visual impairments take many forms, affecting over 2 billion people globally ranging from Glaucoma, Cataracts, Tunnel, Peripheral & Pinhole Vision, Diabetes related sight loss, through to the hallucinatory images created by those with Charles Bonnet Syndrome.

How we see & then experience the world around us has a profound impact on people, families and affects people of any age, old and young.

The viewer will walk through an illuminated visual eye elements set in the treeline alongside soundscape interpretations of various visual impairments. The 2nd part of The Land We See experience will take place as a projection on the YCSS building. Here viewers can watch & listen to specially made short film highlighting the impacts of Visual Impairments & in particular Charles Bonnet Syndrome.

The Land We See is the creation of the Scarborough based Artist, Yoga Teacher & Sound Healer Sefton Freeman (Turn Up The Colour / Badgers of Bohemia), working alongside the wonderful Leeds based sound composer & multi instrumentalist, Lee Malcolm (Jinje/ Vessels). Together and with the invaluable help, advice & input of Colin, Karen, Rachel, KC & Anna from Yorkshire Coast Sight Support YCSS.
