A unique collection of three distinct installations by Scarborough-based creators Animated Objects, Adrian Riley and Astro Dog, each with a theme of contemplation within a beautiful, historic setting of St Mary's Church.
The Tree of Dedications, Reflections and Memories by Animated Objects
The softly illuminated branches of the tree hint at the architecture of the distant past (specifically the Gothic arch like structures of church windows), each adorned with a multitude of stars created by local residents, dedicated to or in the memory of a person or place that is close to their heart.
Light in Darkness by Adrian Riley
A visual meditation, inviting the viewer to look, and read, and wait, as softly glowing neon words slowly appear and disappear, sometimes individually, sometimes concurrently, sometimes overlapping, forming phrases and taking on new meaning and nuance. Taking inspiration from medieval traditions from such as Julian of Norwich, the artwork uses a quote from John 1:5 - “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it” - broken up into nine individual or pairs of words which are repeatedly and randomly reordered.
Celestial Adventures by Astro Dog
An interactive exhibition of astrophotography images and timelapse photography videos, accompanied by atmospheric sound/music, atmospheric lighting, showings of educational astronomy related films along with a short virtual tour of the night sky using planetarium software in an immersive 360 degree planetarium dome.
In addition, there will be 3D light box art pieces based around their adventures under the night sky.
